The Animas Museum is owned and operated by the La Plata County Historical Society, whose directors and staff have transformed the 1904 Animas City School building into a charming local history museum. The mission of the La Plata County Historical Society is to keep La Plata County history and culture alive for present and future generations. The Museum offers a variety of exhibits and programs for all ages, and is also home to our research library and photo archives. The Animas Museum offers a wide variety of resources for students, authors, genealogists, and all others interested in the history of La Plata County available for viewing at the museum. The Animas Museum charges the following research fees: Client does research: Museum admission (free for LPCHS members) Staff research: $15 per hour Xerox copies: $.25 each For information on photo orders please call 259-2402 to schedule an appointment to do research.
